ABOUT

40+ years experience. 20+ years touring with major stars and too many hotels and clubs to remember!

Who is Bones Lamar?
Drums: Tama Cymbals: Sabian Sticks: Vic Firth

Influences: I grew up in the age of the finest music ever and there are so many, but a few of my all time favorites are Delbert McClinton, Tom Petty, The Stones, Beatles, just about any Texas act...Willie, Stevie Ray, Joe Ely, Rosie Flores, Billy Joe Shaver and ZZ Top. Then there is American Blues.. Bonnie Rait, Carolyn Wonderland, BB, well... ALL the blues greats and certainly all those southern rockers... Allman Brothers, 38 Special, Molly Hachett, just a few of my favorites.

Jef Lawlor was born in Pittsburgh in 1953 and had natural rhythm from a very early age. He still has memories of "pencil desk drumming" in grade school. After seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, Jef had visions of becoming a performing artist.

After a 3-year stint in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict, Jef bought his first drum kit and hit the road joining his first band, The Grubb Brothers, a classic rock group based in Missouri. It was with this band he was dubbed "Bones" after an Andy Griffith episode featuring a drummer named "sticks".

Bones toured non-stop for over 20 years and had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Waylon Jennings, David Alan Coe, Johnny Paycheck, The Remains, Richard Tucker Band, Bob Camp Project, Dave Llubek from Molly Hatchet, Greg T. Walker from Blackfoot, Andy Jezowski from Ted Nugent, Bob Bones Blues Band and many casino and resort showbands.

Bones also pursued a new career as a graphic designer and publishing expert, teaching desktop publishing to major national magazines such as The Music City News.

Bones is the first person to design an album cover on a Macintosh computer gaining notoriety as an innovative graphic designer in Nashville.

These days you can find Bones building classic cars and designing custom jewelry and stage clothing (.oldwestcollectibles) as well as designing web sites (.award-design).
