ABOUT

Contact me: (701)471-8336 or mikewalzy I've got a recording studio/rehearsal space that I frequent (every day) and a handful of musician's that have played with me over the years still come to play once and awhile if they aren't in a band already. I could start a new band but I'm waiting for the right reaction, just the most explosive chemistry, by experimenting all the time with different sounds and different people, having fun and taking my sweet ass time... because let's face it, a good musician knows this is a marathon, not a sprint. I just want that killer sound so I'm patient and I play all the time. Every once and awhile there's a spark in a session with someone but my advice to anyone is not to get too wrapped up in goals or objectives. I've quit the most profitable and popular bands I've been in because I KNOW IT DOES NOT SOUND THAT GREAT. I'll be the first to admit that I'm generally unsatisfied with my own music. Happy I'm sounding as good as I do, but unsatisfied because I constantly think how it could be better. And The music comes first. But I'm sure you know that right? PLay play play. Join in, drop out. You KNOW when you have a great sound. And Everything follows from a great sound. Everyone loves to discover the new cool band and share with their friends.

Influences

Sonic Youth, Battles, Pavement, at least lately... I started singing in the children's choir as a kid, picked up the guitar in as a boy and played jazz band all through high school as well as percussion in the marching band. I listened to a lot of led zeppelin, nirvana, the who, bb king, Jimi Hendrix (of course) green day, red hot chili peppers, and pink floyd because I grew up in North Dakota and the best choice seemed to be "CLASSIC ROCK AND THE BEST NEW ROCK" haha I smoked a lot of weed back then. Then I moved to Minnesota and studied musical performance and composition in college, broadening my horizons to Radiohead, Pixies, Modest Mouse, Mogwai, some old R&B, old country/bluegrass, and then I still love all that music but I like to keep discovering and so lately I've been digging into old Sonic Youth, Pavement, Tortoise and recently discovered a band called BATTLES that I really like.

EQUIPMENT

I'm not good with remembering makes and models. I've got an archtop art core by Ibanez and Fender Deville tube amp. I've got dozens of microphones, a yamaha PA system, a recording studio/rehearsal space, Pro Tools, a MiniMoog, a few pedals including a HOG and a few moogerfoogers. I love Moog although I don't have any recent recordings posted with that stuff! Sorry my recordings are OLD. But so are the pics. I'm not sure why, but I have a hard time distinguishing what to post and for whom. I'm pretty open to you. Are you open?
