About
Alex Kang is a drummer and percussionist from Seoul, Korea. Drumming since the age of just 10 years old, Alex began drumming with his church after moving to America. While living with a home-stay family in Los Angeles, CA and then moving to Vancouver, BC Alex found that drumming was the only way he could express himself. Learning English and living in an entirely new country, Alex found it difficult to find his place and that is when he began to pour himself into music.
Looking up to Dave Weckl, Bernie Galane, Carter Beauford and Darren Augustus, Alex decided that music was going to be his future. Moving to Tokyo, Japan at the age of 14 he set up his drum set on the streets of Harajuku and played to grab the attention of the music world. After just one year Alex was signed to Across The Pop Records with the Band Yonrinsha.
The Pop-Punk sounds of Yonrinsha began touring Japan and China as their popularity started to grow. As the popularity of Yonrinsha grew, so did the demands of the label. Realizing that he still had so much to learn, Alex decided to leave the band and move back to America to attend The Musician?s Institute in Hollywood, CA.
Now learning from some of the industries working professionals Alex strives to be a drummer with technique and groove. Alex is currently in a Pop-Rock band called Project Candy Bar backing for Singer/Songwriter Ipo Pharr and has graced the stages of The House of Blues, The Hotel Cafe and Coachella 2011. As an amazing session drummer Alex has recorded Ipo Pharr?s entire EP and has also been a session drummer for many other talented musicians. With the ability to play percussion he has played for many up-coming artists such as Laura Levitt, Tracee Perrin, Elaine Faye and many more.
Now, just 18 years old and the youngest ever enrolled student at The Musician?s Institute, Alex?s enthusiasm and determination drive him to be a great musician. The future only holds great things for this drummer.
