ABOUT

I'm 26, I've been playing guitar my entire life, and I'm wanting to put a band together. I just moved to Huntsville last year, and I still don't have many friends or know many people. I've played with a couple of people here, but haven't really played in a gigging band since I was 20. I'm not married, no kids, but I do work full time as an engineer, and I'm working on my masters degree. I get it if you're busy, I'm busy too, but I'm willing to make time for this. Because it's something I love.

I'm not really going to say "I want to sound like X or Y" because I want to sound like ourselves. I'm into bands like Tool, Baroness, Red Fang, and some stuff of the radio though. The reason I say that is because I just enjoy writing catchy songs. Blame the Smashing Pumpkins for doing that to me. I'm also a jazz nerd, and I've always incorporated some wonky jazz voicings into my music. I can sing decently as well, but I'd prefer not to have a lead singer. I've always felt like the whole "Everyone in the band sings" model made things really interesting. Everyone should have their voice heard, both figuratively and literally.

I do have a semi-pro guitar rig, and I know some of you are gear nerds like me, so I figured it's worth mentioning. Mesa/Boogie Dual Recifier - Marshall 1960 cab. Full effects rig (Pedaltrain Pro) with wireless. My two main guitars are a Parker Fly Classic and a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, although I have an arsenal of Gibsons and Fenders that I use for recording. I'm not expecting anyone to have this sort of setup, because my rig has been evolving over the years. I just never gave up on music, so I didn't sell it all when I got a real job. No offense if you did.

Email me and give me some details if you're interested. I'm not looking to go out and start gigging next week, and I'm also not going to play with people I don't get along with (I expect the same from anyone though). This is all about getting together with your friends and doing something you love. I've been stuck in the back of a van while on tour with people who I hate, I'm not doing that again. Let's get together, hang out, have a few beers, and see how everyone gets along before we even try jumping into anything. I will tell you that I've gotten a lot of replies from people looking to fill a spot in their band that's about to go on tour, or people all the way out in gadsden or muscle shoals. I don't want to be a dick, but I'm not quitting my job or school to go on tour, and I'm not driving 2 hours to go play music unless I'm getting paid.
