The genesis of Apples For Archers began in the early summer of 2009. Chris Komsthoeft (A Day in Attica, After the Given) was looking for musicians for an unrelated project when he met and auditioned Kevin Rowell (The Brian James Band, The Cronus Conundrum). Chris and Kevin found that they worked well together, and after a few practices they expanded the band by bringing in Kevin’s former band mate, Brian James (The Brian James Band). The trio quickly developed new songs and the search for a drummer was on. By a chance meeting at an art show for a mutual friend, the band acquired a drummer, Adam Hewlett (Lowkuss).
With a full band assembled; Brian, Chris, Kevin, and Adam spent the rest of the summer writing songs. The group had a limitless flow of ideas. Over a short amount of time the songs became finely tuned, and the writing process became more and more efficient.
By the fall of 2009 the band began to record their first self produced full-length record. The process posed many challenges for the group, but after only a month and a half of hard work, the album was ready to be sent off to be mastered. The final product was to be Apples For Archers first presentation to the world of music.
During the final stages of recording, Luke Hewlett (Lowkuss), Adam’s twin brother, began learning and practicing the songs with the Archers. Luke’s accomplished guitar style gave the band the fully rounded sound that helped drive the songs to a new level of professionalism. Luke officially joined the band in February of 2010 and immediately became a part of the writing process for the next set of songs that were already underway.
Apples For Archers is the result of five individuals who share a common goal, to create fun and meaningful music and to put on an exciting and energetic live show. The Archers continue to receive positive feedback and reviews as being one of Kansas City’s best new bands, and with the ambition and drive these five possess, the opportunities are endless as to how far they will go.
