Phoenix Musicians

Though most famously known for its sunny weather and warm temperatures experienced year round, Phoenix also claims a very rich and colorful music history. When visiting, one can find any type of music imaginable ranging from the traditional mariachi that is so much a part of the region’s culture, to the more contemporary music of today. One of the largest musical attractions in the area is The Phoenix Symphony. Performing from the months of September through May, they offer more than 270 concerts a year and in the past have showcased individuals such as Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman. The most significant transformation of the Phoenix music scene came with the introduction of The Beatles and the British Invasion in the 1960’s, which developed noted musicians such as Alice Cooper and Bill Spooner (best known of The Tubes). In the 1990’s, the Arizona desert produced The Gin Blossoms which ultimately became one of the most successful bands to come out of the era. In more recent years, the city has launched acts such as the rock groups of Jimmy Eat World and Authority Zero, and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park who has also gained a considerable level of notoriety and many loyal fans.

In addition to the well known artists it proudly claims, the Phoenix area is also home to many celebrated venues which include The Marquee Theatre, The Mason Jar, and The Dodge Theatre. The Cricket Pavilion is another venue that has presented many well known musicians and has been a scheduled stop along the Vans Warp Tour which features many ska and punk groups.

In the past, the city has hosted some of the biggest acts in music such as The Rolling Stones, Norah Jones, and Aerosmith. In addition, its annual Country Thunder concert, now relocated to outside of the city because of its large popularity, has repeatedly brought names such as Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, and Tim McGraw.
