I've been playing the banjo for 6 years, but I played other stuff before that, and I grew up around very good musicians my whole life, so it's totally ingrained in who I am I guess.

Influences:

Mostly the Blue Canvas Orchestra (house bang at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua) up around Bayfield/Washburn, WI. I listen to absolutely everything, though, even gangster rap (every day actually). The banjo goes beyond bluegrass if played in a different style, but I would never attempt rap, haha.

Equipment List:

Gibson Mastertone 5-String banjo. That's it. I would buy an SM57 and get a mic stand and an amp if necessary if someone wants to play amplified.
