ABOUT

Barry Oslander
Barry Oslander has been involved directly in the signing and production of many major recording artists and songwriters who have grossed in excess of $100 million for record and music publishing companies. He has been involved with twenty-one gold and platinum albums and many gold singles. Barry's experience in the record business covers a recording engineer, production, management, music publishing, A&R, including VP Head of A&R West Coast for RCA Records, Foreign Record Sales, and video production.

Barry started as a staff engineer, working at Mercury Records and a number of major New York City recording studios. He engineered many singles and albums which charted, working with the most talented producers at that time. He then produced The Cherry People, a rock/pop band (Top 20), and The Good Rats, a rock band (album and single in England, Top 5) also charted in the U.S.A. Barry produced the classic single, “Abraham , Martin & John" with Moms Mabley and the musical album plus five live comedy albums. And as Music Publishing: As East Coast Professional Manager for April/Blackwood Music (CBS Records), Barry had songs recorded by many different styled recording artists. This success led him to his next position on the West Coast.

As General Manager, 20th Century Fox Publishing headquartered in Los Angeles. Barry headed a three-city staff (NYC, Nashville and LA), four number one singles the first year ( "Rhinestone Cowboy,” "I've Got a Name,” "The Morning After" and "Misty" (Country charts)) plus many other songs recorded and charted. He was staff Music Consultant at 20th Century Fox movie company working on movie sound tracks, and added two more number one singles and one Academy Award, "The Morning After" and "I've Got a Name." He worked with music film arrangers and songwriters Jerry Goldsmith, Charlie Fox, David Shire, Al Kasha and John William on movies such as "Logan's Run,” "Coma,” "That's Entertainment-Part Two,” "The Last American Hero,” “Paper Chase” and others. As General Manager, Jobette Music Publishing (Motown), Barry and staff doubled revenue by obtaining many outside recordings (10 to 20 a month), a practice not actively pursued by Jobette before he joined the company.

While at Interworld Music Publishing Company, Barry signed Robert John, resulting in the number one song, "Sad Eyes.” Kim Carnes was also part of this publishing deal. And Barry worked with Johnny Rivers on his number one song, “Slow Dancing.”

As West Coast Director of A&R and General Manager of Polydor/Polygram/MGM Records: Barry signed Peaches & Herb, along with Freddie Parren, their producer and new label owner (M.V.P. Records). The result was numbering one singles and albums: “Reunited,” “Sayin’ Something!”, “Worth the Wait” and “Twice the Fire,” and sales in the millions worldwide. Gloria Gaynor also went number one with "I Will Survive" as part of the same production label deal. During Barry’s tenure, The Osmonds (five acts in one) never left the charts with the songs and producers he selected. Barry and Roy Ayers (Jazz) produced albums that went from 50,000 to 150,000 per album. Titles: The classic album “Ubiquity/Everyone Loves the Sunshine” (re-released in 1996 on CD). “Lifeline,” “Step into Our Life,” “Vibrations.”

As VP Head of A&R West Coast for RCA Records, the company averaged 5% of the national chart’s albums and singles, with acts including Starship, Rick Springfield, Player and The Chipmunks. Barry also signed Paul Overstreet, three-time Grammy Country Music winner and gold and a platinum artist.

Barry's foreign sales company represented a number of high-level record producers and their catalogs/labels. The catalogs covered all styles of music by some of the most famous recording artists and new artists and were campaigned to more than 25 countries and 250 companies.

Educated in video editing at U.S.C., Barry co-produced "Casey Kasem’s Gold Mine" for Vestron Video under his company's name, COvid Productions. He also has executed the following: directing, producing, editing, song writing, music composing, foreign sales, and helped set up worldwide distribution for Fox Hills Video, Main Event Video and Hideaway Productions.
