NOT INTERESTED IN DRAMA NOR EMBARASSEMENT NOR WASTING MY TIME AND OTHERS!!! Unreasonable egos, acting like practice and/or gigs are just another excuse to get drunk or something similar, and insistence on playing certain songs that the band doesn't have the instrumentation or vocal chops to do well are the biggest problems I've witnessed in past situations. Please, none of this folks. Let's be grown ups and do our best to be professional, learn our songs, be on time, and fill our roles to the best of our abilities. There will be plenty of time for partying, trust me. Scared? No? Then, please, read on... :-)
Bass player from New Orleans area. Used to be in rock, blues, and 80's new wave bands mixed with original songs. Also have played country, rockabilly, cajun/zydeco, jazz, reggae, bossa nova, and samba styles. I have a sassy, confident, deliberate, and punchy style and stage presence. In other words, I'm out to kick ass! You say jump; I say how high. I like to be teamed with a very powerful and time accurate drummer to form what I like to call "the heavy artillary section" so that everyone else in the band has a strong and nuanced beat to work from. We are not there just to maintain form and time. We are there to entertain and make it interesting as well.
Stage presence is important. It's ok to look and dress comfortably for practice, but everyone should be prepared to look like they are in a band when on stage and being paid to be there.
I understand music theory and can explain a song to another player from this perspective. (Think I-IV-V, II-V-I, I-VI-II-V, etc.) I learn songs quickly from listening to recordings. And, I've written songs and can write more. Can jam when I have to, solo when I need to.
I can sing lead vocals, depending on song, and background vocals. I have range, but, like anyone, I have limits. If I can't sing it, I'll admit it and pass on it.
Am open to working with any musicians or bands that are talented, accomplished, responsible, motivated, and have gigs or can get them. If the band is good and I like the style and songs, I'm in. Age doesn't matter, but musicianship does.
Not interested in a "start from scratch" situation unless everyone is VERY good and has equipment, time, dedication, and been in bands before.
I do not have a PA or lighting system. Therefore, the band should have these or everyone should be prepared to buy the equipment or rent it.
I have been someone in past situations who got gigs for the band, though I wasn't the only one. I believe that all members should be involved in promotional efforts and identifying opportunities.
I have a place where we can rehearse if needed. That is not going to be a problem.
Interested in networking with other musicians. If you're a good player and looking to meet and expand your network of other good players then contact me.

Bass Guitars: 1977 black Fender Precision bass with maple neck modified with BadAss bridge. Original pickups replaced. Second set of pickups added. It does the job.
Other basses were destroyed in Katrina but will buy a second bass if I get into a band. (used to have a 5-string fretless Modulus Quantum, Takamine 4-string acoustic/electric, and a custom 4-string fretless)
