After 12 years out of state, I recently moved back to Grand Rapids from Los Angeles. Prior to that I lived in San Diego. I have played with many bands in California, but unlike most, I did not go out there to become a rock star. I was in the Navy, and was stationed in SD for 8 years, after which I moved to LA to attend culinary school. I am interested in playing with a group that specializes in upbeat danceable music that cross the boundaries of Rock, Pop, Funk, R&B, Motown, & Jazz. I was trained for several years by Daniel Glass of the swing group Royal Crown Revue, who was taught by jazz legend Freddie Gruber. This guy was Buddy Rich's roomate in the '40s and spent several years studying his technique.
Several of the world's top drummers studied under Freddie, such as Neil Peart, Steve Smith, & Dave Weckl to name a few. So you can say in an indirect way say I learn from the best.
I am looking to join a group that crosses boundaries, has fun, and makes people move.
