ABOUT

I'm BennyB. I've been playing with The Garrett Sisters & Friends Gospel Band the last 8 years, and a member of BGSSA(Branson Gospel SInger-Songwriter Association), and was voted 'Christian Comedian of the Year' for 2021. I'd be interested in sitting in/playing with folks for a Gospel group or band. I'm really not interested in playing anything else. Learned piano as a kid, learned guitar watching tv country music shows. Played dances, festival, whatever we could get at 15. SingOut Malvern, had up to 125 vocalists and17 piece band for 2 1/2 years before going in Service. I played with The Hot Pants Review, out of Los Vegas awhile after military, went to Mississippi, and got hit in the face and heart with hardcore Delta Blues.
I opened a Family variety show in Hot Springs, Rocky Top Jubilee, in 1989, and went four years, till my wife's health had to become my priority, & closed it. My band and I did shows for a couple years, just for private groups and corporate type things. I did a couple years w/ Central Music Show before 13 years w/ The Bath House Show Band. I did comedy 10 or 12 years, emcee'd a lot of different shows and concerts. I cut 2 fingers off my left hand on a table saw, got them sewn back, and took about 6 months off, but went back with a vengeance. My friends say I now have to play real bass instead of lead bass. Did keyboard bass while recuperating. I played with 'Center Stage Country' about a year, but had too much going on. I'd like to sit in, or play, with some folks doing Gospel Music. It's Positive-I never understood folks who can play without having to be drunk or act angry onstage.
I love Gospel music, and play on my Church Praise Team. I've played from dives and lounge acts to theaters, and larger venues. I did comedy for several years in family music shows as hillbilly "Cuz'n Jabbo". I've done more shows than dances through the years. Sober people are more fun to play for-they know if youkloxdcgbvh mess up!
Very flexible, but can't go on the road. I don't mind playing nearly every night, but want to be home more than not. I Really do prefer to do a Ministry of some kind.

Influences

My early bass influences were John Entwistle, Jack Bruce, and Paul McCartney. Jim Fielder of early B,S & T was a tripping player. Duck Dunn, James Jamerson, Jack Cassady, John Paul Jones, Joe Osborn and Carol Kay. Love Stanley Clark. Flea and Victor Wooten are awesome, but not my playing style. I'm not a slapping tapper-fingers only. GOSPEL is my favorite, but all Christian music's great.
