ABOUT

Hi. About a year ago I moved to the Jacksonville/ St. Augustine area after playing out in Long Beach, CA. for 3 years. Prior to that I was in the Tampa Bay Area where for 34 years I performed full-time as a professional entertainer/singer/songwriter. I have played venues as varied as small pubs & bars to some of the finest resort hotels in Florida, as well as numerous music festivals. I was for 10 years a featured performer on a live morning tv show on the Bay area's CBS affiliate TV station. I performed for the grand opening of Tropicana Field, (home of the Tampa Bay Rays), opened for the Little River Band, performed solo and in a trio before audiences of thousands, have been a featured songwriter/performer at the "Meeting of Minds" annual songwriters gathering in Key West. I have been the house musician at several Bay Area resorts & restaurants where the length of my tenure was measured in years at each. I have written well over 150 songs and have recorded and produced 4 original CDs in my own ProTools studio, working with some of the best musicians in the Tampa Bay Area as well as in Nashville. Through the years I discovered I have a knack for writing songs on "spec", that is I seem to be able to write a song about almost any subject matter, and do it quickly. I am a member of NSAI and ASCAP. I wrote a song with Jonathan Edwards and Pierce Pettis, and have co-writer credits on both of their CDs. In addition to my original songs, my repertoire includes a few hundred covers. I am seeking a talented, like-minded, committed and experienced writer/performer, male or female with whom to collaborate, co-write and perform here in Northeast Florida and beyond.
My website is under re-construction, but if you Google my name you can find more of my stuff,
or find me on cd Baby, iTunes, or many other online music sites.
About the questions below... I have played over 100 shows thousands of shows ago. I've gigged so much that I practice only if I am adding a new cover song or writing or revising a new original. My gigs were paid practices. For years I averaged 5-6 shows per week, often as many as 8. I am currently playing at a few spots around the area.
Please contact me if you might be interested in meeting up to determine if we might work well together. My email is billhaughey

Influences

A lot of the usual suspects... Dylan, Paul Simon, Beatles, James Taylor, Lightfoot, Fleetwood Mac, Moody Blues, Mark Knopfler, and yes, Jimmy Buffett (a lot of people don't give him the credit he deserves). Among newer talents I like Jason Mraz, and John Mayer. There were and are other equally influential artists that inspired me though they aren't famous in spite of their tremendous talent. Some of these local performers (and they are everywhere) have influenced me greatly and deserve more than they get. For me, the common thread for all of these artists is they wrote songs with real lyrical substance and inspired musical themes that were brilliantly produced.

EQUIPMENT

I have a 1956 Gibson ES-225 arch-top electric, a '65 Epiphone F-150 acoustic, a '72 Martin D-28, an '83 Ovation Custom Balladeer, a matched set of '85 Ovation Collector's Series (6 & 12-string), and several more guitars, as well as a couple of mandolins. Though I don't play keyboards, I have an M-Audio ProKeys 88 keyboard/synth/midi controller as a studio instrument, but it could travel if a keyboard was needed. I usually perform with one of my 3 Alesis SR-16 drum machines.
For live performing I have 2 complete Mackie CFX-12 PA systems, one powered by a Crown XT series 2000 watt power amp, the other by a 400-watt Peavey amp, for smaller venues. In addition to the on-board fx panel, both have their own Alesis Midiverb-4 fx processors, 15-band stereo EQs and power conditioners, all mounted in their own rack cases, both ready to roll. For speakers, I have one pair of each of the following: EV-S15-3, EV-S-12-2, Yamaha S-15-2, and Fender S-12-2. I also have a pair of 12-2 floor monitors. For microphones I have: 2 Beyerdynamic M-69's, 2 Sennheiser Evolution series, and 6 AKG D-850's. I have several mic stands, a couple of music stands, tripod stands for speakers, & a bunch of guitar stands, and a tripod stand - mounted set of stage lights. In order to haul it all around I have a Ford E-250 full-size van.
I also have a 48-track ProTools digital recording studio with a lot of goodies, all set up & ready to record. The studio mic is an excellent Equitec E-200 mounted on a 6-foot studio boom that I have used on all my recording projects.
