About
Edgie, Political, Blues Fuzz Garage MC and singing vocals, Green Bullet blues harp, occasional Spanglish, Bass heavy. So general concept is fairly straightforward. The key elements are Blues, Hip-hop, Rock.. the nuance, relationships and shared musicality of these genres where I see the innovation and cohesive elements which can be used. These genres share a very common musical ancestry in western society, which as you know were largely "borrowed" from Africa. It's the in between spaces...the wonderful "gray area of commonality" where I see the music taking on a somewhat new life. These have no doubt been collaborated on before, but not in the way I'm shooting for. Cohesion through lyric topicality, overall tone while using the relevant elements from each respective genres, and then blending them in various songs. I don't see every song having every element...but as a body of work, they will all be used accordingly..
There are dark and urgent elements to all genres of music, especially the ones I'm addressing. This darker end of the spectrum is also a HUGE component of this project I cannot emphasize the edginess of it enough. While some songs will be declarative, story tellers, and provocation of thought, I hope some of the sh*t will sound downright dangerous...seething underneath. For example, modern pop culture largely associates blues with boogie down good times. The pain and sinister elements of this music has been co opted and often gets lost in the shuffle. fu*king Applebee's used John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom Boom" for a commercial. While much of blues has a driving boogie woogie element to it that lends itself to an almost simple and hokey pleasantry, it's also a gritty, desolate, angry music, rife with social and political underpinnings. I want the latter...in all the genres, because it's there.
