Band to Join.

ABOUT

Bassist with both live and studio experience looking to join a band. More specifically, one that primarily does originals. Not in it for the cash, rather I am in it for the music and creativity. Thus, I am looking for a collaborative band type situation, not work as a sideman or part of the backing band for an 'artist'.

That being said, your band should have a solid plan - whether it's to record and self publish, be a regional live act, etc.

I'd classify myself as intermediate/experienced, meaning that I know my way around the fretboard, can stay in the pocket with the drummer, and can generally pick up new songs fairly quickly.

I cannot sight read sheet music (but can read it and work out a song in advance of a practice), and I'll be the first to say that I can't play by ear, but if you say 'riff on D A C G, and then A F D A on the break', or ask that I create a bassline in the key of 'G', I can figure it out and hop into an improv.

Musically, I prefer simple, minimalist basslines that set up a nice sonic foundation for everything else to build on. And I've learned to truely cherish a good drummer ;)

Things I am not so much into: Pay to Play (or anything involving selling tickets), unreliability, egos, lack of communication, or inability to manage stage volume.

Best part - No drama, very easy going, and doing this to have fun now that I'm at a point in my life and career where I will not have to boil my picks for soup, or sell my guitars to pay the rent. Reliable transportation, dependability, etc. are all pretty much a given at this point.

Commitment wise, ideally a group that practices once a week, and playing out 1-3 times per month, with some wiggle room either way on those numbers. Regional gigs are fine, but touring is not an option since I need to keep the day job.

Geographically, I work in NYC (midtown), so weekday evening practices in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or North Jersey are fine. Weekend practices, anything from Scranton PA through north Jersey through Manhattan are also fine. Same range for gigs.

So in short - if you need a solid bassist who's comfy hanging out in the rhythm section with the drummer, and quite content to let the guitarists do all of the fancy fret work, then I'm your guy. If you need an amazing bass soloist with prehensile fingers, then I'm pretty much not ;)
