BREATHING THE VOID was formed in 2008 by four reformed hard rockers from the 80s and 90s. After spending a year dusting off the gear, grinding away the rust and polishing up the chops, they have emerged ready to play.

They come to the stage with an hour and a half of original material and a handful of choice covers that range from driving heavy rock to mellow acoustic tunes, from which they can craft a set ready to please any rock audience. BREATHING THE VOID is:

TJ Armand (Vox) TJ Armand is a Berklee College of Music graduate singer/songwriter. His first rock musical "Welcome to Stony Brook" earned him an ASCAP special award and he is also the protégé of the late Grammy winning producer Arif Mardin. Armand has performed with many bands in Europe like Eros Eros and Riskk and has two top 10 albums to his credit as a producer. TJ has also worked as a staff member for Atlantic Records, CBS Radio and MJI/Clearchannel (radio syndication).

Bill Corley (Guitars, Violin, Backing Vox) Bill cut his teeth in Austin’s club scene in the mid-90s, playing lead and rhythm guitar for The Number XII, Monkeywench, Provocative Elbow, Moonstone and Oddjob. After moving to Boston in 1999 with Oddjob alum Jeremy Alexander, they had a go of it as an acoustic duo, Far Out Ryot, with Bill playing violin. After cutting his hair, getting a day job and buying a house, Bill dusted off his Stratocaster and Mesa Boogie stack last year for an impromptu jam with Thysmo. The rest, as they say, is history.

Bob Zabala (Bass Guitar, Backing Vox) Bob Zabala received his first instrument at the tender age of 6, a Spanish Classical guitar with nylon strings purchased for $20 to hopefully discourage him from playing “Rock” music. It didn’t work. Bob has been in several loud punk, rock, funk-metal, rap metal and metal bands since being born in the Fort Apache section of the South Bronx including such bands as The Shedmen and Surge. Eventually Bob helped formed Sex Magic, which is closing in on 12 years of playing in Boston. When asked to provide some bass tracks for the newly formed BREATHING THE VOID, Bob quickly agreed.

Bob “Thysmo” Thys (Drums, Backing Vox) A veteran of the Boston scene in the 80s and 90s, Thysmo brings 30 years of hard-hitting percussion to pound out the beats. Influenced by the likes of Albert Collins, Pink Floyd, Dio, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, Thysmo has hit the skins for Black Street City, Johnny Rod and the Bad Boys, Sporklift, Plundge, Mars Hill and Melancholy Circus, among others. After taking time out to start a family, Thysmo formed BREATHING THE VOID to start something new.
