Jeff “Cherokee” Bunn is an American musician best known for his work with George Clinton Parliament-Funkadelic & The Brides of Dr. Funkenstein.A "short" list of influence include Sly & The Family Stone,Larry Graham,Bootsy's Rubber Band,Earth Wind & Fire,Stevie Wonder,Ron Carter,Jaco Pastorius,Gil Scott-Heron,Howlin Wolfe to Frank Zappa,Weater Report,Betty Davis,Prince & Edwin Birdsong.
Cherokee was brought to P-Funk by Rodney "Skeet" Curtis and began working with Clinton’s Parliament-Funkadelic Thang Inc. music conglomerate in the fall of 1978 as the principle bassist for the company’s most recent act,“The Brides of Dr. Funkenstein,”supporting the “Funk or Walk” album - covering Skeet's and Bootsy's recorded work during the Funkadelic’s “One Nation Under A Groove” tour and continued in this position for the Parliament-Funkadelic “Aqua Boogie” and Gloryhallastoopid tours and the Bride’s last album,“Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy”.
After serving two years in Clinton’s “Uncle Jam’s Army”, Cherokee served four years in Uncle Sam’s Air Force before returning as a P-Funk All-star in 1992; subsequently supporting Praxis (Bernie Worrell,Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey and Buckethead), and Jerome’s Mutiny CD “Aftershock 2005.” Cherokee continues to serve as “on call” bassist for George Clinton,sharing the bass chair with Lige Curry as well as supporting the Music Ministry at Second Baptist Church in Richmond, VA and The Brides of Funkenstien.Cherokee is also Haliwa-Saponi Native American Tribal Member, and U.S. Air Force Veteran.
