Clayton Turnage aka “Clayfunk” can be describe as powerful,laid back, extremely solid, versatile, and a hybrid of old school & new school. Also being adaptable can be attest back to his stint of service in the United States Marines Corps, where adapting and overcoming is one of their motto’s.
Clayfunk passion was sparked at the tender age of six years old. His mother on the weekends would turn on albums from bands such as Earth,Wind, and Fire. One day his mother played a song off of the, “Gratitude” album by the elements called, “Shining Star.” The rhythmic pulse of the intro grabbed his attention. That song ignited the pilot light, and Clayfunk’s quest to learn about music was instantly turned to an obsession.
Clayton has gain an astonishing amount of musical knowledge by playing for churches and different denominations. Those informative experiences has helped develop his unique musical approach. Also helped increased his prodigious musical library as well as help develop his advocate roll within the band. He has also gain an extensive amount of knowledge on the pre and post recording production side of music.
Clayfunk professional resume has taking him regional, national, international with many artists and bands ranging from local to national. He has perform interviews on the radio, cable TV, as well as streaming live performances via the internet. He’s an original founding member of the Rhythm Cats NBA Charlotte Bobcats drum team.
Today, Clayton is involved in several collaboration recording projects and working on his debut CD.
