ABOUT

Covered In Scars is looking for a technically proficient lead guitarist to lay down the final tracks to "The Massacre" album and play shows with. The guitar tracks involve a lot of fast power chords and challenging arrangements, so practicing on your own time outside of band practice is a must. I prefer to practice as a group twice a week and would like to find someone who can learn a full-set within two months. I'm a fast learner and want to play with other musicians who pick things up fast as well, are dedicated to their band, show up on time, have good equipment and have no drug problems. Money from shows is divided evenly among band mates after each performance (merchandise profits are split between members contribute to the purchasing of them).

Practice is held at my house in Old North Dayton near the outskirts of Englewood/Vandalia around N. Main St. and Philadelphia Dr. I have a nice jam-space in a large, finished basement with a full PA that's nearly 1,000 square ft. with no worries of noise ordinance. There's also an acre of land with 2 fire pits, so putting on house shows is totally possible and has been done effectively in the past. Please don't contact me if you're only interested in jamming at your own house. The drums, PA and bass rigs are all here.

I'd prefer a guitarist around the age of 30 with a background in technical death metal, and/or some progressive/classical influences (which is the combination of styles CIS is taking in moving forward), preferably who's not in several other bands. Also important to know is for studio, in an effort to maintain consistency between the first and second half of the album, the guitarist will be required to play through the same 3 amp's and cabs we used on the first 5 songs. These tracks will be recorded simultaneously using a signal splitter, so no worries about getting frustrated in having to lay down several rhythm guitar tracks outside of harmonies and smaller additions on separate tracks (i.e. volume swells, pic slides, dive-bombs, etc.) If this is an issue, however, please do not respond to this add. A whammy bar for dive bombs is a must. Tuning is in Standard C and will require you to have your intonation setup for this tuning. (nothing CIS plays is in drop tuning and never will be. This makes the fast power chords on the more technical arrangement a lot more difficult).

UPDATE: After we recorded the bass and drums to the final tracks of "the Massacre" album over the holidays at Refraze studio with session drummer Brian Harris, the search for a full-time drummer began, ending with Travis Abling being announced as the full-time official drummer for CIS (his previous projects include Darkness Undying and Divided Road). New material is already written and more is underway, so future recordings are already in plans for CIS.

Previous bands I've played in were (from oldest to most recent): Adverse Theory (with Scott Munger from Pitfiend), Violent By Design (with Greg Tucker from Springfield), Human Paradox (with Darin Moore, Andy Hall and Chaz Bond), and my own recording project, "Covered In Scars" (featuring Brian Harris, Scott Munger and Jimmy Rose). My favorite bands are Death & Pantera (Chuck Schuldiner is my all-time favorite guitarist). I have Pro Gear that includes: 1600 watt Ampeg SVT 4-Pro head, 8x10 Ampeg Cabinet & 2x15 Carvin Cabinet (I run through both for my tone), a customized Dean Edge bass, Line 6 Bass POD XT Live pedal (which also acts as a secondary preamp and compressor) and a Digitech effects pedal that I use for phase effects on some material.
