ABOUT

Hi, a big re-edit here. I’m no longer in a band and moved to this sweet little town on the Kitsap Peninsula during the pandemic. My family’s health situation means I have to lower my commitment level, but I’m very much up for being engaged with recording projects and occasional gigging.

I’m seeking to connect with other songwriters and players of a similar caliber and skill level for possible collaborations. Sounds a bit elitist, and I do strongly support musicians of all levels. I’m always growing too, and part of learning chops is learning to hide my own flaws and weaknesses. After many years, I’m an excellent fingerstyle acoustic and electric guitarist, a strong vocalist, and very good home studio engineer and producer. Lots of stuff I’m not good at, but not that stuff.

What I’m trying to communicate is it can be awkward when there’s little or no fit with another player or writer and they are interested in collaborating. This is why I’ve posted a range of videos, etc. to give you a sense of what I’m into. I’m deeply interested in getting to know others who’re in a similar creative bag.

I've always had wide musical tastes, acoustic to electric, ballad to experimental to world to funk. I started out in an art-fusion band in Detroit called Argos inspired by John Cage, Sun Ra, and prog rock. Eventually, I became a song-poet. I toured during the 90s under the pseudonym 'David Folks,' garnered college airplay across the U.S., played Bluebird Cafe and Kerrville Folk Fest, and had the honor of sharing the stage with Rodney Crowell, Richie Havens, Richard Shindell, Jan Krist, Susan Calloway, Jonathan Edwards, etc.

Past propaganda:

"[David Folks] draws his audience into a warm space of feeling and introspection, which he supports with elegant moral ambition." 'Music Hound Essential Guide to Folk Music (1998)

"Spilled Poetic Love" - Dirty Linen/ Driftwind (1995)
