Born and raised in Gulfport , Mississippi , David Caspelich, AKA David Grey began his musical career ‘later’ in life. While most aspiring artists were dreaming of stardom, David was working with his father, building an NHRA drag strip, Magnolia Dragway. Auto racing was in his blood, his uncle, Joe Caspelich, who was coined as one of the "Originals" of NASCAR, and a Charter Member of the "Pure Darlington Record Club", was a great influence to help him find his way, building and driving race cars.

At the age of 15 he started a family business, Steel Brothers Race Cars and built and worked on over a 150 race cars, including NHRA Pro Stock, Funny Cars, Dragsters, Late Model Dirt and Winged Sprint Cars. Music was also in David's family, he received a guitar as a graduation gift and before long, he was playing and writing songs. At the age of 19, David went to a local recording studio to record his first original song. The engineer Pete Leoni, was taken by David’s vocal sound and began using him to perform demos’ for local songwriters. In 1985, one of those writers, Wanda Mallette, who had written such hits as “Looking for Love” (Johnny Lee) and “Just Another Woman in Love” (Anne Murray) recognized his raw talent and signed him to a development deal, as an artist/writer with Wanda Mallette Music.

The following year, while recording in Nashville , at County Q Productions, owner Paul Scholten, liked what he heard in the final mixes and suggested pitching them to various record labels. Within 6 weeks, MCA called a meeting to discuss his future, which included forming a band, known in his home town as Texas Flatt. The group became very successful, opening for such acts as Martina Mcbride, Charlie Daniels and Sammy Kershaw. MCA's Interest was no longer promising, when the Person who believed in David at the label, followed Jimmy Bowen to Capitol Records. In 1990, David was courted by Capitol Records and stared an Album that was later shelved. In 1992, David put his career in the hands of a brand new label, BFE/BMG Records. His first album titled ‘Signature’ was released in March, 1993 along with his national television debut video from the single, ‘1-900-2-LONELY’ which aired on TNN and CMT.

After 21 years of writing, singing and producing, David is back in his home town with his wife Kelly, Racing with two ASCS Sprint Car teams, Shane Morgan and Hunter Phillips and working with "Hall Of Fame" Quarter back, Jim Kelly, to help raise money and awareness for the Hunter’s Hope Foundation. Grey is very passionate about this Non-Profit Organization and is proud to be doing the two things he loves the most, racing and making music. Grey is scheduled to appear at some upcoming NASCAR events to promote his new album "Cowboy's And Engines.
