Donna Sweeney may be known as “The Daytona Blues Woman”, but her vocal capabilities don’t stop there! Though Blues is her first love, she also belts out Rock and R&B with power and grit, and sweetly delivers Soul.

Her deep passion for the Blues began to develop in 1963. That year, her older brother introduced her to the music of Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, and many more legendary Blues artists. That was the beginning of a life-long passion that would come to be integral in her life.

Originally from the Boston area, Donna held various positions on the Board of the Boston Blues Society during the late 80’s. She resigned from the BBS upon receiving a job promotion which required a move to the Washington, DC area. Donna relocated to Daytona Beach in 2003, and initiated the formation of the Daytona Blues Society in December of that year. Currently in the process of forming a Blues oriented band, Donna also appears with local bands as a guest singer and regularly participates at various open mic jam sessions.

Influences:

Influenced by and honor many. Big Mama Thornton, Etta James, Maria Muldaur, Jimmy Reed, Little Walter, Sugar Ray Norcia, Darrel Nulisch, Billie Holiday, Koko Taylor, Katie Webster, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin ... too many more to mention!
