Jacksonville, Florida Musicians

Jacksonville is home to many famous musicians. Arthur “Blind’ Blake also known as “The King of Ragtime Guitar” was a Jacksonville native and an influential blues musician In the 1950s, Pat Boone emerged as a popular teen idol. Other musicians and bands such as Mase, Derek Trucks, Lynard Skynard, Limp Bizkit and lead singer Fred Durst, Yellowcard, Shinedown, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus all emerged from Jacksonville. Jacksonville’s local music scene is boasts popular bands like Too Many Shoes, an all girl rock and blues band. Some other local bands include Take5Band, Rezist and Kymystry.

Jacksonville is also home to numerous music festivals including the Jacksonville Jazz festival. This jazz fest is held in April and is the second largest jazz festival in the U.S. Springing the Blues is an outdoor blues festival held at Jacksonville Beach. Planetfest is another popular festival offering a variety of new rock artists. The Spring Music Fest is a free concert sponsored by the city and features local and national artists.

The Freebird Café is a venue inspired by the band Lynard Skynard featuring national and local acts whose albums are all available for sale at the shows. Jack Rabbits offers original, eclectic music of all genres that “keeps going and going.” Some other popular live music venues include The Florida Theatre which was built in 1927, The Jacksonville Landing, located in downtown Jacksonville and host to numerous festivals and events, and Thee Imperial/ Rock ‘n’ Roll Pizza, which hosts some of Florida’s best musicians.
