Atlanta Music Scene
Atlanta is home to many great artists including REM, Indigo Girls, The Black Crowes, and Collective Soul. Elton John even chose Atlanta as one of his adopted hometowns making him even more well known in the US.
Atlanta is driving force for modern music. Some of the most well known music stemming from Atlanta is hip-hop and R&B which gave way to artists like Ludacris, Outkast, Jermiane Dupri, T.I., Bow Wow and Lil Jon. LaFace Records is a record label based in Atlanta that signed Toni Braxton, TLC, Usher, and Ciara. Another Atlanta based record label includes So So Def Records, created by Jermiane Dupri which also signed artists such as Da Brat, Jagged Edge and Dem Franchise Boyz.
However, Atlanta still has rock n’ roll roots. Here are a few rock venues to visit. The Earl, located in East Atlanta, features local and national rock musicians. Smith’s Olde Bar is a rock venue featuring everything from alternative country to true rock n’ roll. Andrews Upstairs is yet another venue showcasing a variety of musical performances including several tribute bands.
Little Five Points are Atlanta’s landmarks boasting extreme rockers nightly. Two popular clubs of the Little Five Points include The Variety Playhouse and the Star Bar. Both clubs host numerous eclectic musical performances and concerts dedicated to youthful musical experiences.
Atlanta also has a classical music scene including ensembles like the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Opera, and the Atlanta Ballet. Classical musicians include renowned conductors such as the late Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony's Robert Spano.
