I have played in several classic rock/southern rock coverbands over the years. A disturbing trend I've noticed is that when a band starts to enjoy even the smallest amount of success, invariably the focus shifts from making music to making money.
I am looking to either form or join a band that loves making music. I have nothing against making money - but if making money is the only reason for the band's existence then it's just a waste of everyone's time.
I have had a deep and sincere passion for making music since I was 6 years old. I know there are other musicians out there who love music; who don't calculate every aspect of their lives in terms of dollars and cents, and who believe trying to put a price on creativity cheapens the art and the artist. I love making music and performing. I'm bored with practicing all the time only to turn down 90% of the "opportunities" because they don't "pay enough."
I would rather be on stage performing, (paid or not paid), than sitting at home on my principles, (not getting paid). I'm looking for guys who share those thoughts.
In my opinion, if you focus on making music, then making money will take care of itself and never be an issue. Those who focus only on the making money part, usually don't make music or money.
