ABOUT

I currently play bass with Matt Smith and The Band of Brothers. We don't play bars and stick to medium sized venues. We have opened for a number of national touring acts including Parmalee, Tracy Lawrence, and Trace Adkins.

I want to get busier with music so I am looking to either join a working band that is professional and does not need to "practice". Especially if it is a cover band. I would love to get involved with some original music and would be available to rehearse once a week. Rock or Country is my preferred genre. (NO METAL)

I have been playing since 2002ish. But have been serious about it the past 6 years. I have great equipment and lighting.

Past Events

Matt Smith is a country singer/songwriter and U.S. Marine. He grew up in a small farming town in central Kentucky and was largely influenced by George Straight, Alan Jackson, Glen Campbell, Tom T Hall, Alabama, Clay Walker, and Tracy Byrd. Matt began playing guitar and singing at age 10 under the instruction of local music legend Eugene Hall. Matt’s three brothers soon followed in his footsteps and together, they started a band. Matt began writing music at age 14 and recorded his first independent album with his brothers composed of all original songs at age 15. Matt and his brother Tim did the song writing for the band and the four brothers performed a multiple venues all over Kentucky. Matt continued to grow as a singer, musician, and songwriter throughout high school. He won multiple contests to include the Kentucky Bourbon Festival talent search and the Renfro Valley talent search where he was the only performer to play an original song. During college, he received a regular gig at John Michael Montgomery’s Bar and Grill and paid his room and board playing in local bars.

Matt decided after September 11th that he would delay his dream of pursuing music until after he served his country. Matt wanted to serve with the toughest branch of the military and became a Marine Officer in 2007. He was stationed in Camp Pendleton, California where he deployed twice to include one deployment to Iraq and one deployment to various places in the Middle East. Matt served as the leader of a Scout Sniper Platoon and as an Intelligence Officer.

Matt then received orders to Washington D.C. to the famous Marine Barracks where he was selected to serve as the Commander for the famous Silent Drill Platoon. It was at this duty station that Matt began to pursue music with more intensity. He met John Ed Auer, a fellow Marine Officer, who played the fiddle and was from Nashville. The two quickly started playing together regularly. In April, 2014, Matt and John Ed were selected out of a Department of Defense wide talent search, in conjunction with the Academy of Country Music, to perform alongside Lady Antebellum as part of the Academy of Country Music All-Star Salute to the Troops. They performed “Compass” with the trio which aired on CBS in June, 2014. George Strait, Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Florida Georgia Line, and many others also performed on the special.

Matt continued to write songs and perform locally and landed opening act gigs for Alan Jackson, Montgomery Gentry, Little Big Town, and Jason Michael Carroll. It was during this time that Matt attracted the attention of Fox News after writing a song for his wife, Marci, entitled “The Mom Looks Good On You”. This funny tune reassured his wife that she was still beautiful after she had given birth to their daughter. The tune was received with enthusiasm from crowds he played it for and as a result, Matt and John Ed were featured on the Fox & Friends Morning Show where they performed the song live. Matt also performed on multiple local radio stations as well as major market radio stations to include the Michael J show on WMZQ in D.C. In November, Matt and John Ed were two of only three service members selected to perform for the President at the White House as part of the PBS Special “In Performance At the White House: A Salute to the Troops” where they performed “I Drive Your Truck” in honor of a Marine John Ed served with. Willie Nelson, John Fogerty, Common, and Mary J Blige also performed on the special which aired on PBS and the Armed Forces Network. Matt has continued to open up for major acts to include The Band Perry, Trace Adkins, Danielle Bradbery, and others. Matt recently paired up with Grammy Award Winning producer and songwriter Tommy Sims to cut his first official Nashville single of “The Mom Looks Good On You”. It will be released the week of Mother's Day 2017.
