About
Up and coming drummer, Ian Semanko was born and raised in the musically diverse settings of the Pacific Northwest. Exposed to a wide range of music and performance from a young age, the Seattle native has had experience playing and studying numerous styles and genres from the beginning. He sat down at his first kit at the age of ten and after a few years of playing set drums, decided to shift interests and start competing as a snare drummer with local bagpipe bands. Ian continued to compete for four years before returning to the kit with a higher understanding of musicality behind the instrument. Though, still holding a love for the snare, he formed, taught and composed scores for his High School drum line to keep his hands in shape while settling back in. After High School, Ian attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA where he had the privilege of studying with such great drummers as Donny Gruendler, Chuck Silverman, Rob Carson, Ed “Eddy” Roscetti, Jeff Bowders, Gary Hess and Chuck Flores. While he had always identified himself as a “Heavy Hitter” he found a new stride through his time at school and gained a love of finesse and plain old groove within a wide variety of styles. Currently, Ian is building his resume as a professional drummer, working with several bands both in the studio and in live performance. He is also developing a student-base, catering to beginner to intermediate drummers and percussionists in the Northwest.
