The Continentals big band based in Lakeland FL was formed in the early 1980s and has played many gigs in the surrounding Central Florida area. Comprised of up to 17 mainly retired professional musicians, music educators and former band directors, the band is capable of playing all genres of music but leans to the "sweet" or romantic sounds of the 1940s to 60s, Broadway ballads, early R&R hits like "At The Hop" with newer/current hits as charts become available for big bands. Director can be reached at: imabigbandman at aol dot com.
Naturally, The Continentals has been influenced by the great big bands from the 1930s and 40s eras such as Benny Goodman - Glenn Miller, etc. However, our band tends to promote the "sweet" or romantic sounds of the past, pop '50s music and early Rock n' Roll. As more up-to-date charts of pop music such as Barry Manilow and Michael Bublé's retro sounds of the big band era become available they will be added to our library ("Summer Wind" - "After The Lovin'.")
