ABOUT

Experience Overview: I come from a very musical family and have played various music genres with various ensembles (classical, symphonic, jazz, blues, celtic, traditional, classic rock, folk, lounge, Christian, experimental, etc.). I can read music, play by ear, improvise, write my own music, write lyrics, and create songs from others’ lyrics.

Availability: I haven't been in a steady group in quite a few years but am looking to ease back into the music scene. My daily activities and family take up most of my time so I need practices and meetings between gigs to be minimal, well-planned, AND well-executed to maximize my time away from home that will lead to simple but polished performances. There are SO MANY places to play on the Northshore. I'm keeping things as close to home as possible.

Gigs and Stage Presence: I would absolutely LOVE to just show up with a stool and a music stand to sing at restaurants, coffee shops, local festivals, private parties, etc. I prefer to be more in the background rather than the main event. I like to engage an audience, gain their appreciation, and build intrigue but I don't plan to cater my music solely to fight and scream for their non-stop attention for hours at a time. They can simply enjoy their dinner and their friends and the entertainment should they choose; which will be familiar enough to recognize but different enough to remember and want to experience again.

Style: I have a low-range voice (think a blend of Stevie Nicks, Tracy Chapman, Karen Carpenter, and Joni Mitchell). I am very creative and like to tastefully splice songs together that you wouldn’t necessarily expect into a “momentary medley” of sorts. A chorus from one song might sneak in between 2 verses of another. Those who catch it could lose their minds out of surprise, those who don’t will still enjoy the music all the same. My choices tend to teeter between fun/quirky/folky and mellow/somber/pensive. A classy, down to earth kind of balance.

Vision/Purpose: The overall internal purpose that I am fulfilling through performing live is to inspire people to slow down their crazy busy lives for a few moments and just stop and smell the music - perhaps even in a new way. They should leave in a BETTER mood than when they arrived. Refreshed and delightfully surprised as if they were just unexpectedly handed an ice-cold glass of free lemonade on a hot Louisiana day. Or a ginormous mug of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows on a freezing cold evening outside.

In Search Of: The problem with singing and playing the flute is that I can't accompany myself! Besides, what is melody without harmony? Two voices are better than one, two instruments (or more) are better than one, and partners can share the load, taking turns with leading, solos, etc. I LOVE to sing backup/harmony and can play a very strong support role. The smaller the group, the easier to coordinate schedules, from my experience. I’m hoping for a total ensemble of 2-3 multi-tasking musicians.

So if you agree with everything you have read so far and share my vision, purpose, drive, and style, well, let’s talk. Agreeing with what I have said so far is WAY more important to me than sheer musical ability. There are TONS of great musicians out there who all have their place in the music world but not many who want their audience to leave with the lemonade/hot chocolate buzz.

EQUIPMENT

Although I've briefly PLAYED lots of different instruments in the past, all I want to focus on for right now is flute/vocals.

I do happen to own a couple of flutes, two acoustic guitars, a very small amp, a violin, two low-quality keyboards, a couple of music stands, 1 mic stand, and a stand light, and some kind of recording device I inherited and don't know how to use.

SO, we focus on flute and vocals :)
