Influences
I grew up listening to Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, George Jones and Conway Twitty thanks to my parents; Meatloaf, Kiss, Cheap Trick, Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, early Journey, Billy Squier, Foreigner courtesy of my brothers and sisters; and Bon Scott era AC/DC and George Thorogood thanks to my best bud’s older crazy as hell brother. After that, I heard Def Leppard, WASP, Motley Crue, Black N Blue, Ozzy, Kiss sans makeup and I became addicted to the new wave of hard rock. Soon after, I began really zeroing in on the glam/sleeze rock of Guns n Roses, the Black Crowes, London Quireboys, Faster Pussycat and LA Guns.
Although I leaned toward the heavy side in the 80’s (and still do), I also dug some of the cool new wave tunes that were coming out by the likes of INXS, Modern English, The Cure, U2 & REM to name a few. I did the whole grunge thing in the 90’s with Everclear, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden and still snuck in a little Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon. Between then and now, I’ve been listening to Silvertide, Puddle of Mudd, Counting Crows, Neon Trees, Shooter Jennings, Theory of a Deadman, Gin Blossoms, Kings of Leon, Buckcherry and Godsmack. Somewhere in there, I managed to get into classic rock like Foghat, Tom Petty, Montrose, John Cougar, Steve Miller, Lynryd Skynyrd, ZZ Top and of course, the Stones, Zep, and Aerosmith.
Basically, when it comes down to it, I like most rock and roll (& even country) with good guitars and powerful vocals. Rock n Roll should always be about having a great time and hopefully, that’s reflected in my performance on stage.
