Band to Join, Vocalist.ABOUT
My name is Justin and I play guitar and want to join some bands=.
Here are the details:
I'll be twenty seven and I've been playing since I was thirteen. I would categorize myself as a very good guitar player. I'm not a huge shredder, but I am a good soloist and have great improvisational skills. My greatest asset is writing new music and adding color to compositions. I can sort of read music, but that is changing as I'm teaching myself to properly play the piano and read music, and I have a really good grasp on theory. In terms of styles, I can play anything. My roots are in really thickly layered and composed rock (Led Zeppelin, ...Trail of Dead, Radiohead, Flaming Lips), but I can play any style.
My main guitar is a 1998 Les Paul DC Standard and I currently have a Marshall VS265 combo. In the past I've used a big, unwieldy pedal board but these days I only have a tuner and a delay pedal between the guitar and the amp. You make music with your fingers and notes, but I'm not at all opposed to heavy effects. I just don't use them much these days. I've also got a Taylor GS5 (which I'd higlhy recommend to anyone looking for a new high end acoustic)
I work a full time job (I'm a marketing manager for an Internet Retail company) but that doesn't mean I can't commit to a band. In the right opportunity, I'd happily go 100% with a band.
I like beer, but don't get sh*tty drunk really anymore and I have no problem with a band that likes to toke before shows. I've been there, and done that, I'm just a little more grown up now.
A little more about me as a guitar player... I write on my acoustic, never my electric. I do this because notes are more important than hiding behind a wall of distortion. Bands I'm into these days: Radiohead, Zeppelin, Sigur Ros, Band of Horses, The Knife, Interpol, The Flaming Lips, Mastodon, The National, The Walkmen, Pink Floyd, etc. I'm a big pitchfork reader, but I usually think those dudes are dickheads.
If you want to jam, shoot me an email and we'll hook up. If you want to go have a few beers first and talk music, thats fine too.
My only requirements for a band are that the members are close to my age. I don't want to play with 16 year olds. You kids should find your own voice. And, I can't immediately go on a 24 week tour because I have a job. However, I could play around town and make the weekend trip to Chicago or something. I've been in bands for the better part of 8 years, so I know how the story goes in terms of being in a band and handling those relationships. I have no ego at all and am one of those people who has never met a stranger.
I posted this exact same ad a few months ago, but I didn't find something I was really interested in. So if you have a full band and are auditioning guitar players, call me. If you're a songwriter and need someone to play open mic nights with you, call me. I'd also be down with trying an instrumental project too (godspeed!, EITS, etc)
Give me a contact
Cheers,
Justin
