ABOUT

To be honest, I'm not sure where to put myself in terms of genre.

I'm looking to play again after a 15 year hiatus. Used to play a lot of acoustic guitar, mandolin, and some harmonica. Recently bought electric bass and started messing around a bit.

I don't read music (well, I can, but it's REALLY SLOW) but I can build chords and harmonized scales if a chord name is given. My rhythm is solid.

Too much to list, but here's a sampling:
I've been listening to Charlie Hunter Trio and revisiting the Police.
A lot of Scofield over the years (McLaughlin too)
Miles (Milestones, KoB, Sketches, etc.... through Star People and In a Silent Way)
Bela Fleck (both bluegrass work and with the Wooten Boys as the Flecktones)
The Meters / Funky Meters
Crimson (the Discipline era)
Richard Thompson
Plus the usual acoustic based rock (Band, New Riders, Uncle Tupelo / Son Volt / Jay Farrar, CCR, Steve Earle, Frog Holler etc.)
Odd Pop (Jim's Big Ego, Cake, David Lindley)
Dave Matthews has done some cool stuff
English Beat
The Seatbelts
Taj Mahal's "The Real Thing" is a fantastic album.
