Playing over 20 years, an avid player of Kramer, Charvel, Ibanez and Fender guitars. Has played in and with various bands/projects/& musicians. Hopeless tone freak, prefering Marshall Superleads and Voodoo modified Marshalls.

Fun, passion, conviction and tenacious application are imporant components to the craft and a necessary ingredient in everything Jimmy does. A lifetime of dedication and pure love of music and it's energy are what attracts such a player.

While always in search of more dynamic prowess, Jimmy has also been fascinated with a variety of different tones and imagery that can be created by the guitar. Although ecclectic, Jimmy is always motivated and highly focused on the artistic and expansiveness of music as a whole. While always a bit of a pirate for the treasures of the past, Jimmy McG is excited to be a bit bold and adventurous in exploring the future. Never one to rest on laurels, the music becomes a delicious concoction of 80's color and fervor, spicy flavors of funk and surprising hints of even Vintage material. It all mingles into a ferocious combination that reaches into tomorrow and goes where music has yet to soar. You are cordially invited to join in on the on-going romance, drama and passion that is Jimmy McG.

Influences:

I try to be original,But, I'm a product of my influences, Kinda like guitar soup:) I Love the HardRock of the 80's, I strive to have:

# Jeff Beck's Whole bag o' tricks :)
# Jimmy Page for other worldly chops and creating my medeival outlook on music
# Eddie VH's sheer joy when he plays
# George Lynch's Orgasmic Tone and that SICK vibrato;)
# Warren DeMartini's seamless approach and sick Tone!
# Jake E. Lee's Stage presence and Ferocious Attack!
# Randy Rhoads modal scale knowledge
# Karen Briggs's violin chops from heaven and for making me proud to be a musician
# Yanni for his ethereal composing and keyboard chops
# Gary Moore's phrasing
# Michael Schenker's Pychotic prowess
# John Norum's tasty, ferocious, harmonic melody.
# John Sykes' heart and soul. The attack on those helpless strings.
# Rick James..Without Rick there would be NO Booty shaking!
# Dave Meniketti's Solid, fluent Rythym
# Criss Oliva's Passion
# Reb Beach's innovation
# Neal Schon's sense of melody
# Hank Williams Jr.'s... Way of looking at it all :)
# Waylon Jenning's.. Rugged Wildness
# Neil Geraldo's Hooks ...
# Ronni LeTekro's classical sensabilities and deliberate picking abilities.
# Mark Kendall's smoky, blues that rip paint off walls.
# Dimebag Darrell for being the real deal.
# Rudoph and Mathias: Elusive, edgy licks that singe fingers...
# Donald (Buck Dharma) Roeser, Jimmy Page's favorite guitar player and definately one of mine.
# Steve Stevens for scorching my ass everytime I listen and showing me Flamenco is totally cool!

Equipment List:

I'm a lefty and these are my main guitars:

1987 Kramer Focus 6000, made by ESP, original Floyd Rose tremelo My 1st guitar!! Real men love pink and this one is technicolor pink! This is my only guitar to have pickups other than Seymours. It has EMG SA,SA,81 Configuration,

1986 Charvel model 3L w/ Seymour Duncan JB, Jackson Floyd Rose TremeloThis is the guitar that introduced me to Seymour Duncans and I'll never turn back. It is a superb instrument. I would love Wayne Charvel to make me a custom guitar.

1986 Ibanez RG 550L w/ Seymour Duncan disortion Ibanez Edge tremeloI found this in a pawn shop. It had Dimarzios in it. I quickly changed to Seymours. This guitar is butt ugly but it rips paint off the wall. I love it!!!!

1990's Fender Strat, Seymour Duncan JB Jr. This is my first traditional "Strat". So I had to fu*k it up somehow. :) Custom wiring, 2nd tone pot, modified to coil tap. Eric Johnson eat your heart out! But I can also play Slayer on it. Bravo!

1980's Kramer Pacer parts guitar, Seyour Duncan JB original Floyd Rose tremelo, and a sick paint job by my low rider buddies. Ola! This started out as a body and neck from the old Kramer stock in Neptune NJ. Somehow, Victor Litz in Maryland got a hold of the whole lot and sold me 4 lefthanded bodies for $50. Got a left handed Kramer American neck for $45. Left handed original Floyd from Eastcoast Music Mall and the finishing touch was a Seymour Duncan JB. Viva la raza! LOL

Fender DG-10LH Acoustic guitar I just found this in a pawn shop accidentally. Picked it up and fell in love. The best $100. I ever spent.

Amps:

Marshall til Death!!!

1972 Superlead (The Holy Grail!)Stock!I believe it has the original dagnall transformers and it is hand wired. I've been on the hunt for this monster since I started playing. I only recently found such true love in tone and I didn't know what tone was until I plugged this in! I got it off a freind of mine for $500. Imagine that! Btw, I miss my friend, an artists among artists. May blessings find you wherever you are. Rock on, bro!

2006 Marshall Mg15 DFXThis little amp is a badass. If you get a chance, get one! It sounds like a Superlead in a little itty-bitty box.Yeah baby!

JCM 900-Modified by Voodoo Amps (Trace, Ithica New York)This amp was a dud until Trace got a hold of it. This guy is amazing. He put in Mercury Magnetics input and output transformers and a new choke. The output transformer is a '68 Plexi transformer reverse engineered from the original "Circa" '68. The front end is his own proprietary hex mod pre-amp. Added a tube buffered effects loop, put in EL 34 Groovetubes and you got a sick bastard on your hands. I'll put this thing up against any amp, British or American or fu*king Martian. Check out Voodooamps.com. You won't be disappointed! Think Marshall on steroids and Viagra at the same time! LOL

8100 Valvestate Head w/ Silver Jubilee cabinetI got this rig in a pawn shop for $300. The cabinet alone is worth that. This is a neat rig. It's like having a hundred watt combo in head form. Don't sound like much but listen to DEATH. This is what Chuck Schulender used. RIP bro!

Pick-ups:

I will play Seymour Duncan 'til I die! There is no substitute.

JB,

Distortion,

Screamin' Demon, SSL1

I have to mention EMG pickups also. These work great with effect processors.

Strings:

GHS Boomers .009-.042, .10-.046 I have been playing GHS Boomers for 20 years. I've tried others but I see no reason to use any other string. The best.

Pedals/Effects

Analogman TS 9/808 Tube screamerThis was a stock TS9 Ibanez tube screamer. I sent it to Analogman and in one short week it came back a ferocious beast. I got the 808 mod with the TI RC4558 op amp chip. Heaven!

Digitech XDD Digital Delay You could kill somebody with this pedal it's so heavy but it sounds ethereal.

Groovetubes SEII Speaker simulator I use this as a dummy load for the Marshalls because as you and I know tone doesn't come without a deafening price. I play a three stage guitar rig. Dry, wet, wet.

Various Digitech processors, GSP 2101 Artists, RP100,
