ABOUT

What's up, I'm John, been playing music since I was a kid.

My mother plays guitar and always had a classical around playing Argentine folk music (she moved here a few years before I was born, so I'm half Argentine, love that kind of music, obviously tango included) so I loved that.

She had drums lying around and I was banging on those till I was around 3, then an accordion popped into the picture, I still have it and it's super tiny but I must have been good enough at it because when I was 5 they bought me a piano, which frankly was amazing because we were quite poor up until I was 13 or so.

I was classically trained by a good friend of the family until I was 11, kept in contact with him (still a good friend - he went to Oberlin) and get some tips here and there still. Then I started playing the violin in school, 1st violin 2nd chair, then viola, first chair, and then it was the summer before highschool.

The guitar showed up then. I got heavy into that, I mean like really really heavy, bass as well, but not so heavy, and played that hours everyday practicing and playing in bands and practicing and playing.

I eventually got a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, went there for a bit and took everything but the general education because I already had a bachelors in sociology/anthropology......I have logic so I mess with electronic music a lot, but I'm no pro.

I play all styles, love all music really, it's hard to find a genre I can't groove on. So that's me and my relation to music. Hope you dig.

Influences

Wow. Ok. The Real Books, I'll just find an artist and hear whole albums from them. Wayne Shorter, Miles, Chick Corea, Horace Silver, Coltrane, Evans, Clifford Brown, Henderson, Brubeck, Patitucci, Yellowjackets, Jobim, Haroldo Lobo, Gary Burton, Mike Stern, Brecker Brothers, Parker obviously, Malmsteen, Steve Vai, those shred guys, Django, all Thall and Djent, although sometimes the vocals bug me and some are cliche, I dig trap, Little Tybee, Jaga Jazzist, Chet Faker, Bireli Lagrene, Abhorrent, Odesza, Screaming Headless Torsos, Iron and Wine, Jon Gomm, Tom Quayle, fu*k, everything really. It's surprisingly hard to name all that's influenced me but basically all sounds.
