ABOUT

(from an article) Jose Morales is a professional guitar player from San Juan, Puerto Rico. He started playing classical guitar before he turned seven. At eleven, he told his father (a preacher and classical guitar teacher) that he had enough. His older friends were growing long hair and listening to Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Young Rascals, The Ventures, and to some Rolling Stones guys. Rock music had stolen this young man forever away from classical music and with the advent of the "magic 70's" (when the best rock guitar music was produced in history), Jose started developing his own personal style, as he worshiped Chicago's late Terry Kath, Carlos Santana, and eventually Steve Lukather. With time, his own eclectic fast-fingered legato style acquired its own latin/blues flavor and turned him into one of the best "unknown" stars around. After a 38 state tour with Up With People in the late70's, some studio work in Puerto Rico, and steady live performances with first line recording stars in the Caribbean, Jose finally made his jump to the mainland to produce his own music. Unexpectedly, a career in professional sports snatched him away from rock music, just like rock music had once stolen him from classical music. He spent the next years of his life umpiring professional baseball, raising a family, and enjoying Gospel music at church. In 2000 he lost his loving wife . Despair and necessity provided the perfect probing ground for his passion for music to retake what was once left. This time in the form of 2-3 hours of practice everyday and a very fortunate dive into his Church's worship ministry...

In 2008 he moved to Texas where he is a bilingual grade school teacher for the DISD. Besides teaching, Jose is still a studio musician covering the styles of classic rock, latin rock, funk, rock en español, and some jazz. Besides, he has collaborated with bands such a Chin's Mojo, The Wave, and just last year he started to bring up his own band, Midtown. Worshiping-wise, Jose has played lead guitar every Sunday morning in Calgary Church, Destiny Church (Freddy Rodriguez), The Current (Plano), and in Freedom Church, in Grand Prairie.
