ABOUT

Still Seeking Susan is an 80’s cover band we are in the progress of setting up. We have chosen about two dozen songs from the 80’s to perform. See "INFLUENCES" section below for those artists.

We, John and Joe, are two friends who have each been playing piano/keyboards and drums, respectively, for about 30 years. We’re both 40(ish) and share a love for music and certain passion for songs from the 80’s. We are excited about the prospect of this band and hope you will be, too!

Over the past two years, we have created backing tracks to certain parts of each song (e.g., additional synthesizer, keyboard, and percussion parts) as a foundation upon which the band would perform the songs live. The attached samples are first mixes of a few songs we recorded live (drums, keyboards, guest guitar playing) over the tracks we created.

GOALS OF STILL SEEKING SUSAN

Artistic goals:
• Perform popular music of the 80's that has a certain groove and “danceability”, combine human play of instruments with electronica, and appeal to us musically.
• Faithfully reproduce the rich and complex sound of each song we choose to perform.

Commercial goal:
• Perform at corporate and personal events in the Chicago area for supplemental income.

Personal goal:
• Have fun working with other musicians who combine talent, experience, dedication, and a mutual love for these and other songs from the 80’s.

MUSICIANS NEEDED

Lead Singer:
Male tenor. Strong pitch, rhythm, passion, and stage presence.

Once we find a vocalist we will be seeking a guitarist, bassist and perhaps background vocals.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Formal musical training is not required but knowledge of harmony and rhythm is preferred.
• You are expected to be available for rehearsals 2 – 4 times a month.
• You are expected to learn parts of songs on your own (rehearsals are for rehearsing)
• You are responsible for having and maintaining your musical equipment suited for high quality sound and performance.
• You are not expected to be an exclusive member of this band as long as any other musical commitments do not pose an unreasonable scheduling conflict to bookings.
• You are available and willing to perform at gigs in the Chicago area on a bi-weekly basis.
• You understand that this project is a part time one aimed at supplemental income, and you are not dependent on this income.

AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

If you read everything above, listened to the samples, like what we have to offer, and feel that you are a good fit, we would be very interested in meeting and hearing you perform. Please do the following:
1. Prepare to audition three songs of your choice posted on this site -- either any of those we created and uploaded to the media player or any of those listed below. You can copy and paste the URLs into be to see the original videos / hear the original songs.
2. Send us a message via this site, our Craig’s List Ad, or to StillSeekingSusan . com (ignore spaces in the email address; this site does not allow the insertion of email addresses). Tell us about yourself. Send mp3's of any recordings or work you would like us to review. We will respond with some dates and times for auditions in Chicago.
3. On the date and time of your audition, we’ll spend an hour performing the three songs you prepared. You will not need to bring any equipment.
