ABOUT
Bassist Jerome Yancy and Saxophonist/Keyboardist Deon Yates were among the leading lights of a new generation of contemporary jazz musicians emerging from Detroit. Both natives of the Motor City, The each began playing at the age of eight, Yancy attended Wayne State University and Yates attended Oakland University. While still in high school Jerome studied under and performed with Motown legend Earl Vandyke and Jazz Legend Marcus Belgrave. While Deon was taken under the wing of Motown trumpeter Herbie Williams, Pianist Harold McKinney and Saxophonist Donald Walden. In Jr. High they were introduced to the world of traditional jazz by teacher and saxophonist Hosea Taylor who also instilled a love for classical music into these young men. As teens, they joined saxophonist Donald Washington in the group Bird/Trane/Sko/Now!, which also included a young James Carter and Rodney Whitaker. These two have been virtually inseperable for the last 30 years. They both have played with local and national legends making up half the rhythm section for artist like Pricilla Price, Robert Penn, Chick Willis and the Floaters just to name a few. Jerome and Deon have joined together once again along with Mike Kilgore (drums) and Bobby Hill (guitar) who have been in the detroit music seen for many years as the driving force behind some of the areas top rhythm & Blues artist, to bring you the super group "Moments Notice". "Moments Notice" is the newest encarnation of these two young but seasoned musical veterans, bringing a culmination of all there musical influences and styles to bare. From Contemporary Jazz, Rhytm & Blues, Neo Soul to BeBop they got it all. Keep an ear out for this group because they are certainly a force to be reconed with.
