I've been playing guitar for about 25 years. The best way I can describe my skill level is using a Richter scale where 1 is beginner, 2 is someone who is fluent enough with open chords to play campfire songs, 3 is someone who is starting to using more sophisticated chords and throwing some pentatonic riffs and leads into the mix, then skipping to the other end where 10 is elite like Tommy Emmanuel, Tony Rice, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Pass, etc, 9 is professional (maybe a session musician), 8 is quasi-pro (very fluent playing lead but not quite to the level as a pro that has spent 35+ hours a week for several years playing and practicing), Levels 4-7 are difficult to explain because there are so many styles and the scale isn't really linear but I'm either a 6 or 7.
