Looking to form an electronic-infused, jazzy, funk, ambient music project.
I'm currently looking for a partner who can play guitar, piano and/or keyboards, and have some music software experience. I mainly have a rock background, and have learned jazz drumming and techniques for the past 3 years. I've learned how to use Reason music software for the past 2 years, and would like to go into that direction with the right partner(s).
I'm specifically looking for musicians who have at least 10 years experience. I discovered drums by accident in 1988. Since then, I developed my drumming and played drums more frequently, from 1994 to present.
I have played with put-together bands for events in the past and never committed to any one band or group of musicians. I then found myself committing to a band called, The Velvet Ash in 2003. I was their former drummer from 2003 - 2006, spanning 50+ gigs during that period.
Here are my influences - electronic-infused music, jazz (not smooth jazz, more like swing and jazz funk), classic rock (Van Halen, The Police), some metal (Faith No More), funk and soul (Chaka Khan, the JB's, James Brown) and I find Bang Camaro to be a fun concept band.
Drummers that have inspired my drumming: Stewart Copeland, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, Gene Krupa.
So what I'm trying to get to is, let's create a mix of acoustic and electronic music that is jazzy, a touch of ambient, funk-driven, and has rock appeal. Is that even possible?
Goals: To create good music, have fun, do recordings, and see where it goes from there.
If you happen to be in the area (near downtown Culver city), e-mail me back.
Drummers's styles whom I aspire to learn: Vinnie Colaiuta, Stewart Copeland, Steve Gadd; Genres: rock, swing and bigband jazz, bebop, funk, trip hop, lounge, electronic (Amon Tobin, Art of Noise, Bonobo, Square Pusher, Mocheeba, etc.)
Macbook, E-MU X-Board 49, Peavy PV10USB, Reason 4, Roland V-drums
