I was brought up singing in the black church, so that's where I got my chops. I've done a few local musicals down in KY and also have recorded a couple of gospel CD's with churches as a chorus member, so the dedication and hard work factor is there. I'm a counter-tenor, meaning I can sing exceptionally high for a man without struggling. I also have a nice low register.
