ABOUT

Hi, I'm Mike, a Certified Computer Technician who fixes computers during the week and a working Musician. My weekend gigs are usually playing Latin Percussion in Merengue Tipico and Bachata. I have a wide variety of musical tastes and appreciations. I have been playing music since the age of 11 starting with Guira and Tambora. Shortly after, I picked up trumpet in elementary school under the teaching of Michael Van Buren. In High School, I continued to study Trumpet under Marie Vecchiarello performing in the marching band, concert band and jazz band. I would often double up on snare drum in the marching band in between songs and for certain parades. I would often volunteer to perform "Taps" on trumpet for the veterans on memorial day. While in high school I picked up bongos and alittle bit of drum set, and electric guitar along the way. By this time, I studied latin percussion from my second cousin Jose Ramon De Jesus who was a professional musician since the age of 15. Jose Ramon showed me the ropes of latin percussion in Tambora, Guira, and Bongos. After graduating high school, I went on to college while returning to the high school to help Miss Vecchiarello with the new students of the trumpet line and the drum line. I did this until my sophomore year in college. I also studied Guira, Tambora, and Conga from my bestfriend Melquis Naveo. I began playing percussion for the local Bachata groups in the Greater Boston area for a few years and eventually landed an opportunity touring in the US and in a short time in Spain with Sony Recording Artist Domenic Marte. After coming off tour, I took a break from Bachata and picked up bass guitar and joined a heavy metal group "Heretic Hybrid" for a few months until I got called to play Bachata again. I shifted my focus to play Tambora strictly for Merengue Tipico groups along with Timbales since then. I have taken a few classes in Tambora with a few merengue tipico musicians Mayu Tambora, La Peligrosa Tambora. I had studied Piano and classical guitar for a short period when I went back to college awhile after. I got an opportunity to study other world percussion rhythms under Marcus Santos and performed with Marcus for aNova Brasil Grooversity Drumming group in Boston. Currently I've been playing Tambora and on occasion, Congas in Merengue Tipico and Bongos & Tambora in Bachata. I've been gravitating toward recordings and production.
