Hi there. My name is Matt Burke, and I am a singer/songwriter originally from central Florida. I've lived in Chicago for the past 8 years and have been building my band - The Matt Burke Band - in both the Midwest and Southeast markets for the duration of that time. Recently, I have moved back to Florida in order to build an earth-shattering backing band to support the release of our second album (due out in early December).
Up until recently, we have simply hired session guys to come in and play for gigs in Florida. That worked ok while we were only doing a run of shows about twice a year. However, now that I'm back, and I'm throwing 100% of my effort into this, I need to find the right guys to fill out the band.
Here's the situation: I gig as a solo artist 3-5 times a week. I gig with the lead guitarist from The Matt Burke Band about 2-3 times per month, I'd like to gig with the full band every 2-3 weeks, all around the state of Florida. I have venue contacts as far south as West Palm Beach, and as far north as Jacksonville and Tallahassee.
I am very serious about this band. This isn't a fun weekend project. We're not looking for hobbyists. We're looking for folks that are talented, that believe in the music we're making, and that are actively seeking a working band to hit the ground running with,
We have a total of 20 original songs. Our first album (released in 2010) generated a good deal of online buzz via reviews, interviews, and radio play. Our second album is being mixed as I write this, and I can say with the utmost certainty that the songs are really great, with lots of commercial appeal and potential for placement in film and tv.
I envision a well rehearsed, tight band with two 90-minute sets worth of material. Clearly we will play the originals, and open things up to whatever jams may come. Additionally, I'd like to learn enough interesting covers that are similar in style to my originals so that we can pitch ourselves to clubs and bars as a full night's entertainment. Covers I'm thinking about range from The Black Keys, Stevie Ray Vaughn, & Alabama Shakes to R. Kelly, Afroman, and Snoop Dogg. I LOVE developing creative interpretations of pop songs too - think rocked out/funky versions of Taylor Swift, Brittany Spears, Lil Wayne, etc. Lots of fun to be had here.
In developing this band, we will be able to play a wide variety of rooms and performance types. We will be able to showcase exclusively as an all original band, but we will also be able to make some money, get some exposure, and gain some new fans as an original/cover/party band at bars.
We're primarily looking for a bass player and keys player, but we're open to anyone who reads this and feels like it's a perfect match for them. Get at me if you're on board.
