About
Was lead vocalist for New York/New Jersey’s HavocHate which played a mixture of thrash and power metal not entirely unlike that made famous by The Big Four, and was formed in the late '90s by guitarist Freddy Ordine and drummer Ovie Rodriguez. An advertisement in a local music newspaper that read "Crazed vocalist looking for equally crazed band" led the pair to singer Jon Mallek in 1997. Bassist Dave Ludwig joined the fold prior to the recording of their debut album after being the band’s roadie for a period of time.
Before even signing a deal for their debut entitled 'This Violent Earth', which was recorded at Big Blue Meenie Studios in Jersey City, New Jersey and produced by the DEATH, CANCER, DISINCARNATE and TESTAMENT credited guitarist JAMES MURPHY, the band was asked to support Manowar on their much anticipate ‘Gods of War’ North American tour in 2002.
Soon after the extremely successful tour concluded, the band signed to the ‘Root Of All Evil’ label for the 'This Violent Earth', album and soon scored another valuable coup by being selected as opening act for the MOTÖRHEAD / ANTHRAX North American Summer tour, which turned out to be another hugely successful tour for the group making them one of the bands to keep an eye on during the new thrash metal revival.
The band then went for a major overhaul in April 2004, parting ways with bassist Dave Ludwig and drummer Ovie Rodriguez and incorporating the world class rhythm section of ex-TESTAMENT bass player Greg Christian and former EVIL DEAD, TESTAMENT and SLAYER drummer John Dette. The new look HavocHate entered Pyramid Sound Recording Studios in Ithaca, New York on 26th April with producer Alex Perialas to craft a second album 'Cycle Of Pain'. However, Dette decamped in August, hooking up with vocalist Dave Pullaro, PUSHED, BELLADONNA, KILLING MACHINE and STREAM guitarist Peter Scheithauer as well as the former MAXIMUM PENALTY, SYSTEMATIC and MY RUIN credited bassist Johnny Chow (a.k.a. John Mark Bechtel) in a new band unit.
The band was then joined by ex-HADES drummer Ron Lipnicki in October. However, the band's original drummer Ovie Rodriguez then marked a return as a new deal was struck with Indecent Media. Lipnicki then enrolled into the ranks of OVERKILL for European dates in May of 2005. Later that year the band made the ballot for Grammy nominations. The nominations were Best Metal Performance: "Cycle of Pain"; "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal": "Fiction"; and "Best Rock Album": "Cycle of Pain".
