ABOUT

I'm a working-stiff/corporate sellout who used to play in a moderately successful rock band at Penn State called Blue Suede Groove (we're still on iTunes, if you care to listen). As a full-time slave to the Man, I miss the glory days of learning new songs, playing gigs and having fun. So I says to myself, "Self, why not rip off that band you used to go see in college (Velveeta) and try to start an 80's cover band that could practice and play on weekends?" When I realized I was having a conversation with myself, I decided to answer, "But how in the world will I find other musicians who have goals that are almost completely opposite to those you see 99% of the time in these online ads (i.e., "looking for committed musicians" "I play what I like, not what I think others will like" or "looking for serious, full time professionals only"). Then I found this site and thought, "What the heck? I'll give it a shot," instead of talking to myself, which was just getting weird by that point.

Long story longer, I'm now an average to below average singer who is looking for like-minded weekend warriors looking to learn some fun pop tunes from our glory days (pun completely intended) and then try to earn some spare change on weekends by playing some local bars in the valley or westside with little to no ambition beyond maybe establishing ourselves as the regular Saturday night performers at Club X.

Personally, I listen to Phish and the Dave Matthews Band. For this gig, however, think Rick Springfield, Nena, Flock of Seagulls, Prince (Purple Rain or before), MJ (may he rest in peace), Madonna, Tears for Fears, Poison, Phil Collins, Def Leppard, Ah-Ha, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Men At Work, INXS, and basically every other mainstream recording artist that had a Top 20 Video on MTV between 1980-1989.
