Located on the Mississippi River, St Louis boasts a colorful music history which is able to claim itself as the launching platform for artists such as Ike and Tina Turner, Miles Davis and Chuck Berry. In addition, the city proudly acknowledges its role as a primary stop along the once famous “Chitlin’ Circuit” which showcased legendary musicians like Otis Redding, Jackson 5, and Ray Charles. The city’s musical diversity ranges from its annual summer opera festival to some of the most current hip hop artists like Nelly and Akon.


Beginning in the 1950’s, St. Louis became the home of the once thriving Gaslight Square. More renowned than New Orleans’ Bourbon Street during its height, it attracted some of the biggest entertainers of the day such as The Smothers Brothers and Barbra Streisand. Despite the Gaslight’s eventual retirement in the early 1970s, St. Louis has still provided the music world with top performers like Sheryl Crow, Chingy, Gravity Kills, and Murphy Lee.
