I'm a very well-rounded and generally easy-going 22-year-old who's had a deep interest in music for about 6 years. I developed clinical depression about 5 years ago, the first 4 years in which no effective treatment was found; music played a large role in my ability to cope, and I really see music as an outlet for one's thoughts and feelings.
My main interests are games, especially video games (incl. quite a bit of Rock Band 2). My dream career has been "make games" at least since I was 9, and to that end I'm currently struggling with returning to school after years of doing nothing. I'm probably majoring in music, since there's no good "game development" degrees (yet).
My hobbies outside of gaming and music are philosophy (personal philosophy, not a huge amount of study on past philosophers per se), game modding/design, watching movies, and studying Japanese (I want to spend a year or two teaching English in Japan between the degree and the games career). I love trying new things and being diverse (for example, I was recently thinking about looking for some voice acting opportunities, but decided to sign up for this site instead). I also love being around "intellectual" people with whom I can have stimulating discussions about virtually any topic.
I took some piano lessons when I was very young, then quit for about... oh, 8 years?
Then I got into playing this cheap old keyboard I had from way back then. I've since bought a decent keyboard, taken some music classes (yes, I know quite a decent amount of music theory), and been practicing on and off without sheet music (couldn't stand the stuff - much prefer to find the chords or riff I want to play and work up from there organically).
I'm way into Rock Band 2, which first introduced me to how fun drums can be. I got a drum kit for Christmas 2009 and have been learning solo and alongside Rock Band 2's No Fail Mode.
I also picked up the harmonica about the same time as piano. I get bored with the limits of the diatonic scale, so I'm out of practice right now, but I could shape up pretty quickly.
Mainly looking for other amateur/intermediate musicians who want another person to jam with. I've never done anything musical as a group and I'm just looking for a new experience where I can be a little more involved with multiple performers than just playing next to my iTunes.
I definitely would need some patient people who would give me some time to get in the swing of things. I'm pretty confident in myself, but I tend to be overconfident. ;) At any rate, I'm pretty good at meeting commitments and I'm a very fast learner.
Drugs are a definite deal-breaker. I don't care what you do when we're apart, but if we meet up and you're completely high/wasted or reek of tobacco/weed, I won't be able to concentrate on the music. I'm not going to judge you just based on what you like to do; I just can't have a good time in that kind of environment.
I try and draw influences from as many sources as possible, but it should be noted that I mostly grew up listening to the "oldies" station (40s-50s), then discovered the magic of rock, ragtime, and disco in my teens, and have grown to also appreciate country, bluegrass, blues, and more modern rock.
Like I said before, I try to listen to everything and everyone (aside from modern jazz and heavier metals - ew), but my biggest musical influences, I would say, are Led Zeppelin, Boston, Coldplay, Mozart, Bach, and the video game Chrono Trigger.
Keyboard, drum set, harmonica, acoustic guitar, decent headset, toy ukelele.
