ABOUT

I've been playing drums for most of my life (around 27 years). I was brought up listening to a lot of fusion jazz and eventually that became the music i enjoyed listening to the most. It was much too difficult to play as child, but thats what I liked about it. It was a nice alternative to all the simple mainstream that the majority of my peers were listening to. I eventually got into a little bit of everything. I liked the grunge era, i liked listening to classic jazz, I've always been into electronic music. I even developed a liking for certain underground hip-hop artists. The point is... I absorb every piece of music I listen to. So I can play just about any genre that gets thrown at me. If its something I cant play, I will do nothing but practice till I get it right - which usually doesn't take very long.

I hear a song, and I try to hear it from many different aspects. Of course Im always honed in on the drummer. I like to also wonder what the other musicians are thinking about at certain times. Are they just feeling it and letting it come out as they play, or are they thinking of it like a chess player and planning out their moves long before those parts actually get played.

I'm very big on musical communication. I love it when cats have enough musical vocabulary to verbally map out an entire song so that I understand exactly what i'm expected to do (or not do).

I've made my living solely on playing music for the last 5 1/2 years. Its been mostly country, rock, and blues that I've played during this time. Its not my favorite style to play, but I think I'm pretty good at it.

Recently things have abruptly changed in my life. I just moved to the small town of Show Low, AZ. So the last couple of months have been very slow musically for me. I play at a local church on the weekends.

EQUIPMENT

A 6-piece Gretsch Catalina Maple is usually what I use for my gigging set. Next I have a 7-piece Gretsch Catalina Maple drumset which I use as a backup. I also have an OCDP 5 piece kit. I collect drums!! I have plenty of cymbals to choose from - mostly sabian and zildjian. I also collect antique cymbals and some antique drums. I have a Cad standard 7 piece mic kit. I own a beat bug and a metronome. I prefer not to use them when playing with other musicians but I will not have a problem doing so if asked to.
