ABOUT

Youthful, returnee, rock and jazz drummer looking to create my "dream band." I play in a working band in Baltimore that does mid 60s garage band, Psyche, Brit Invasion/Mod. We play out monthly. I also play with a band in northern Va--oldies, mostly hits, Brit Invasion, 60s Top 40, some rockabilly/Elvis. I play jazz with a variety of people who put together pick-up bands.

My "dream band" is more eclectic than the bands I play in now.

I hope to meet solid, experienced players in or near Montgomery County who have played out and aren't afraid to really put some passion into it and rock out. For a situation with potential I would certainly cut back or discontinue other projects and focus on this.

I've got eclectic taste with a broad and deep knowledge of artists and songs and I'm looking for the same in fellow musicians, or at least people who are open to music that is new to them. I'm looking to do great songs that are less overplayed to obscure, and ones with that "oh wow" factor!

Most of my interest is in these genres: 60s British Invasion, mod, garage band, psychedelic, soul/R&B, power pop, jangle rock/pop, folk, folk/pop/rock, mid to late 70s through early 80s new wave and some punk, a few country rockers and rockabilly, some alternative and indie; basically whatever moves me. I'm open and interested in adapting, reinventing, and rearranging when appropriate. Ultimately I want to do great rock and pop tunes, plenty of dance tunes

What I'm not interested in is standard, overplayed oldies (I'm already doing some of that) and classic rock, southern rock (maybe some Little Feat and Allman Brothers) or too much jam band stuff.

Regarding jazz, I'm open to play with people experienced and looking to get better at Real Book stuff, bop, swing and standards.

Influences

My interests are eclectic; here are some of the artists who have songs I'd like to do:

The usual 60s suspects:
Beatles, Byrds, Beau Brummels, early Kinks, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Who. Love, Buffalo Springfield, Free, Graham Gouldman songs; The Sonics, Standells, Jefferson Airplane, The Hollies, Peter and Gordon, Chad and Jeremy, Electric Prunes, Fairport Convention, post-surf-car era Beach Boys like Pet Sounds and the next few, Motown, Pretty Things, Chuck Berry, The Remains,
Crowded House, Big Star, English Beat, The Bangles, Jam, Paul Collins Beat, The Spongetones, NRBQ, Matthew Sweet, The Grip Weeds, The Smithereens, Black Hollies, Tommy Keene, Gin Blossoms, Nazz, Style Council, Everything But The Girl, Emitt Rhodes, Graham Parsons, Graham Parker, Roseanne Cash, Jennifer Warnes cover of First We Take Manhattan, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Jules Shear, Fred Neil, Bruce Springsteen (non-hits), Tom Petty (non-hits), Little Steven, Raspberries, Cheap Trick, Bad Finger, Dead Can Dance, Joe Cocker, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne maybe, Iggy, David Bowie, Oasis, Squeeze, Dave Edmunds and Rockpile, Stone Roses, REM, Simon and Garfunkel, Van Morrison, King Crimson, Pink Floyd...

Tons of others; hopefully you are getting the picture if you know most of these bands and some of their lesser known music. What do they all have in common? Great songs. Basically think of a playlist from a really open, eclectic Adult Alternative Album or progressive radio format. Maybe it's Little Steven's Underground Garage meets pre 1990 WHFS (for those who are from here or were around back then).
