ABOUT

I'm 54, look early 40's, and can still sound like I'm 30! I can sing Alternative or anything that's popular now, but I don't do hip-hop. I'm coming off a long hiatus as a singer. I grew up in Detroit and studied voice at the Univ. of Mich. I moved here in the mid eighties and began seeking a career in singing. After many years of running into the wrong people I let it go to just a house hobby. When I was gigging my show was all about ripping people off (as in impressions). I was known for it and it came in real handy in the studio and various other projects. I do a wide range of voices though now I'm more focused on doing blues/rock/classic, something in that range. I'm a tenor by birth but I can sing lower if needed. My range is much like Morrison/Rodgers though I'm more comfortable between low A to high A. I'm not much into falsetto. It's not one of my fortes' though I'll do it if need be. My lower voice is warm, chesty, like Sinatra or Morrison, and my upper register like Rodgers/Gabriel. One of my many strengths is adapting to what's being played in front of me.

Influences

I'm all over the place on this. From Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, and Chrissie Hynde to Paul Rodgers, Elton John, and Jim Morrison. I grew up in the seventies so I'm more apt to be a blues rock singer though my range of voices tends to be very eclectic. It's not something you learn. I've been doing it since I was a kid. I think what sets me apart from other singers is my ability to reproduce a sound in the context of what someone has written. I do write my own stuff and I'm really quick with finding melodies.

EQUIPMENT

Triton 88. I play well enough to hold my own with my own repertoire. Picking up other parts isn't difficult for me. I read cords as well as use my ear.
