About
Opus was formed in 1995 by Thom Kent and Pete Romano. Thom and Pete met years earlier while studying music at Burlington County College. The two musicians parted ways when Pete left to study Jazz at Berklee College of Music in Boston and Thom went to study percussion at Trenton State College.
Pete came back to Jersey to study at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and continued to play local jazz gigs around Southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Thom played drums and sang in various rock, blues and country bands up and down the east coast.
Because of his interest in singing and song writing, Thom Kent switched to playing keyboards in the mid nineties. Thom contacted Pete to see if he was interested in working together. The two got together to discuss musical ideas and interests. They decided they wanted to form a band that would represent their diverse musical back rounds.
Opus is an eclectic mix of blues, funk, jazz, and rock. With the recent additions of Bassist Jake Jones, saxophonist Jamie Capatch, and Drummer Brian Lizzi, the group covers everything from modern renditions of early R&B and Blues classics to John Coltrane, Eric Clapton, Little Feat, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and Bob Marley. This mixed with the bands soulful originals makes for a truly entertaining musical experience.
