History:
PETER J. BROWN grew up in a musical household in Farmington, New Mexico. His parents Jim and Norma played Country and Bluegrass in the Farmington/Bloomfield area. Country music was always on the family radio, but at night when the signal was good Peter tuned in to radio stations like KOMA (Oklahoma City) and KRST (Albuquerque) and got his dose of Rock and Roll.
Influenced also by the musical performances he saw on TV, ie; American Bandstand, Midnight Special, Sonny & Cher, Hee Haw, Soul Train, The Osmonds, The Lawrence Welk Show, The Johnny Carson Show, and others, Peter eventually developed quite a mixed bag of musical preference!
During his Jr High and High School days, he jammed at house parties and in garages with friends.
While serving a 5-year hitch in the Army, Brown joined forces with a Bluegrass combo in the 3rd Infantry Division Band in Würzburg, Germany. The combo performed at festivals and concert halls from Vienna to Paris, Munich to Munster, and points in between, including a 4th of July gig for international dignitaries at the US Ambassador's residence in Köln, Germany.
On their own time the combo played a couple gigs at "The Truckstop", a popular country-western nightclub in Schweinfurt.
Peter returned to the States where he studied Art at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, and played Folk music at EJ's Coffeehouse.
After graduating in May 1992, Peter moved back to Farmington, learned some new songs, and fronted a few bands: The Bootleggers, StraitShot, and Blue Sage. They gigged in bars in the Farmington-Aztec-Cortez-Durango area for a few years and landed jobs opening for Tracey Lawrence and Mark Chesnut at McGee Park Collesium and Molly Hatchett at The Country Palace.
Today, Peter performs as OTIS & THE RHYTHM, a one-man musical show where he sings and plays guitar using custom-mixed backing tracks for a "full band" sound.
O&R currently plays at the Aztec Restaurant (Aztec,NM) on Friday nights from 6:30 to 8:30
and semi-regularly on Saturday nights at the Bonnie Dallas Community Center in Farmington, NM from 7:00 to 10 pm
"I'm not trying to push myself and get rich and famous. I think the music is what is great and that's what I want to emphasize, some great music that you can can dance to.
I'm just grateful to have the ability and the opportunity to perform for people who appreciate and enjoy it", Brown explained.
